    UNFLAVORED….just the good stuff!, May 26, 2011

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I recently starting weight training, and so I’ve been looking for a whey protein that doesn’t taste gross. I chose this UNFLAVORED whey protein on the basis of other reviews, and I was not disappointed! This product has worked really well for me. I wanted a whey protein that didn’t have artificial flavors or fake sweeteners–even though these additives ostensibly mask the funny whang aftertaste of whey protein, I think they actually taste worse than the whang they’re trying to mask! I also dislike overly sweet, sickeningly, cloyingly sweet products. This product is unflavored, with no additives or sweeteners, and it took me a long time to find one.

It’s worked out great–I put it in my oatmeal, along with fruit and milk. I also make awesome smoothies with it! Instead of the awful fake vanilla flavor, I add my own real vanilla! Instead of fake fruit or chocolate-imitation flavor, I add real fruit and chocolate! My favorite is a mango smoothie, which is better than anything you’d buy it in a store. I’ve also tried baking with it. So far, bread isn’t a good idea–it makes the texture too rubbery. So if you want to bake with whey protein, I advise to stick to no-knead type quick breads.

If you don’t like overly fake-sweet and bad imitation chocolate/vanilla/strawberry flavors, then I recommend this product. Whey protein isn’t the greatest tasting stuff on its own, so if you plan to mix the unflavored powder straight with water and drink it straight…I would not advise. But mixed up with juice, it’s good. With oatmeal, it’s good. Oh yeah, and it’s REALLY good if you stick it in the blender with coffee and milk for a frappucino-type drink!

I haven’t tried the Jarrow Formula with flavors, so I don’t know if they’re good or bad. I just know that I’ve tried other people’s flavored whey proteins in OTHER brands, and I thought they were so disgusting that I’d rather drink unflavored whey protein on its own. The aftertaste of artificial flavors and fake sweeteners is just awful! So I strongly recommend this product.

    Really Great!, February 12, 2007

This is the first protien powder I found. I thought it was OK. I tried others, they did not dissolve as well, had more gunk in them I didn’t need, and tasted bad. Really, you can drink it with just water. It tastes like milk, mostly. Easy to get used to. I usually put it in milk.

Another thing, this is not just for bodybuilding. I had a nagging shoulder injury for months, after I started taking extra protien, it healed rapidly. It really does make a difference for soft tissue injuries.

I also find that it kills my appetite. It’s 100 calories (180 with milk), but I don’t feel like eating anything else for hours.

Check the nutrition info, and how well it dissolves; this is the only choice.
