This supplement certainly does do all it’s slated to do with respect to energy levels–the added energy without the crash or dangerous stimulants. Using Ginseng is wise, because it does not affect the nervous system negatively.
The other levels of vitamins/herbals are great, imho. I am a personal trainer, and try to keep up to date on all of the news and research on herbals and vitamins, and this company rocked it, (in my opinion) on it’s balance and inclusion of things like K2, Zinc, Copper, Cordyceps (yay!), Maca (double yay!)…among others that you don’t normally see yet on the market.
The hormonal balancing herbal inclusions really surprised me and made me like this product even more. As men and women age, our hormones can decrease, causing increase in bodyfat and loss of muscletone. Of course, along with that comes the loss of sexual function, which is pretty disappointing to most people. I had my boyfriend try this, (he’s 55), and he really liked the effects of this on his energy levels. He liked the fact that they are not “horse pills” (he’s not a big vitamin taker as I am). I’m going to keep him on this for awhile and see what it does for him long-term.
I am an avid vitamin and herbal supplement enthusiast, so I didn’t really see a difference between this product and the ones I normally take.
One thing that is of note: When you take ANY supplement, be sure you cycle it. Take it for 5 days, then go off for 2. Or take it for 2 weeks and then go off for 5 days. Or try the 3 weeks on/1 week off routine. This keeps your body from building up a tolerance for the product. Relying on exterior sources (whether it be chemical, like prescriptions, or herbal, like this) to regulate hormones or metabolism can take your body’s natural ability to produce hormones or to keep your thermogenesis going and make it stop…because your body is used to those things being kicked into action by these other sources. What that means is that if you do not cycle these sorts of things, your body will quit making hormones and will quit keeping your body’s metabolism going on its own. This is why people “diet” with supplements and then quickly gain the weight (and more) back when they quit–it’s not all about eating–it’s about their bodies quitting on them. Working in the bodybuilding industry, I saw MANY young men experiment with hormone “replacers” (when they didn’t need them) and they ended up killing their own hormone producing ability. This means that at 18, they were relying on prescriptions and herbals simply to keep up normal levels of testosterone and metabolism. (One young man in particular came to me in tears, because he, at 18 years of age, couldn’t “perform” anymore…I had warned him not to do this stuff, but he “heard how great it would be” and tried it. Bad idea.) So, with anything that messes with metabolism or hormone balance–please go easy and cycle the product. This is not a dangerous product by any stretch of the imagination, and taking it every day probably wouldn’t hurt you, but it also won’t hurt you to cycle it. You’ll see the great effects each time you re-start.
(I use the 5 days on, 2 days off cycle approach, and never see a decrease in energy or hormone issues.)
I like that they only add in 4mg of Magnesium, because Magnesium can really mess up your stomach. (Think: Milk of Magnesia and what that does for you. Running any food source/vitamin source through your body too quickly will decrease absorption.) I don’t think that this is a diet supplement, and am glad that they made one that isn’t necessarily a fat-burner, but only focuses on energy/mind clarity.
As an aside: I LOVE the fact that they are in an Amber Glass bottle. UV protection, protection from the environment, and recyclable and GREEN. This company really thought of everything. Quality all the way.
All in all, I like this supplement! The pills are small and easy to swallow. The product is well balanced and not “scary” like so many supplements out there on the market. I love that these are NON GMO! Go, New Chapter!

As a multivitamin supplement what I like about this product is:

    1. It is organic.

    2. It whole foods derived, not from lab created isolates.

    3. It has live probiotics.

It also has some herbs which are considered “energizing”. To satisfy my curiosity I researched them and in a nutshell found this information. As is the case with most herbal medicines used for thousands of years there is not always a modern published medical study to back up these claims. (If you are a person who doubts herbal medicine then perhaps supplements with herbs are not for you.)

Rhodiola: used commonly in Chinese medicine and is said to be of use when under stress, and affects dopamine and serotonin and thus helps alleviate depression.

Maca: From Peru and the Andes mounains: a study backs up some claims I read “Randomized clinical trials have shown that maca has favorable effects on energy and mood, may decrease anxiety and improve sexual desire. Maca has also been shown to improve sperm production, sperm motility, and semen volume.” Gonzalez et al Forsch Komplementmed 16 (6): 373-80.

Ginseng, American: boosts energy and improves mental performance and enhances well being (and other claims unrelated to energy levels).

Corydeps: anti-depressant (a study with mice proved anti-depressant effects)

Schizandra berry: said to improve mental and physical exercise as well as other health claims

Cardamom seed: traditionally used as a treatment for depression

Most of these are termed adaptogens which are believed to help bring a body into balance, if stressed, it would calm the person down, and if low energy, it would help restore to a more normal state. Adaptogens are not supposed to make a person jittery, they are not stimulants like nicotine or caffiene.

If you are looking for a vitamin supplement to give you a burst of energy, since these are not stimulants (as a strong cup of coffee is) expecting that result from this product would be wrong-headed.

If you are not stressed out, not moody or blue, then taking those herbs would not help: because if you are already “in balance” the adaptogen has nothing to “balance out”. This is not unlike a person who has normal magnesium levels and takes a supplement and finds no changes. Yet a person who is low on magnesium may have the symptom of having trouble sleeping so if they take a supplement to restore a normal level they suddenly sleep well that night. Get it?

I liked this supplement. As I stated above I like that it is whole food based, is organic, and has probiotics in it too.

I had not used this brand of supplement before but I like the base components of the multivitamin enough to choose to buy this brand in the future. It seems like a high quality company to me.

Another quality product from New Chapter, May 24, 2012

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)

I have to say first, I was already a fan of New Chapter’s product line before trying these. I hadn’t been taking a multi-vitamin for some time because it always seemed that they were hard on my stomach. Last month’s Vine offering listed New Chapter’s Perfect Energy, so I jumped at the opportunity to try a product from a company I already trusted. One thing that attracted me right away was that it features the text on the package “Can be taken on an empty stomach”, which I interpreted that maybe I would have an easier time with this product than with other brands I had tried previously. After completing a full month’s supply of Perfect Energy, I definitely had no issues. Amazon doesn’t list the breakdown of the product, so I’ve listed it from New Chapter’s website below (sorry about the poor formatting). I also like that it’s organic. I won’t get into the discussion on whether multi-vitamins are worth taking or not, because there is a lot of anecdotal opinion on multi-vitamins, both for and against. There also may be studies touting benefits, or lack of, with taking multi-vitamins. I obviously believe in the benefits of taking multi-vitamins, therefore I take them. The New Chapter Perfect Energy has a good cross-section of basic minerals, plus some herbals that may result in energy and/or mood support. Again, I won’t offer an opinion, as opinions vary on the value of such items. As far as the product goes, I believe the New Chapter is a good product. And to that end, following my first order through Amazon Vine, I have re-ordered and continue to take Perfect Energy daily.
