Good pre-workout, maybe not the best for the money though, January 13, 2013

It’s a good pre-workout overall, with a good profile of pre-workout ingredients: caffeine, L-Citrulline, beta-alanine, DMAE, beet juice and some other extracts, and capsicum with a few other ingredients. Gives me decent energy during my workouts for an hour or two, kicks in about half an hour after taking it. It’s kind of expensive if you take the larger of the two recommended serving sizes, which I do and I’ll mention, though. But if the cost is OK with you, I’d probably go with this pre-workout over the others. If you want cheaper yet somewhat similar, try hyper-fx, where one serving is one serving. But here’s some notes from me on this product:

Serving size/price: ON recommends 1 serving for “intense” or 2 servings for “extreme”. Basically, if you want a good sized serving, it takes two servings to make one. I’m at about 195 lbs and I use two servings, and to me it feels like a normal sized pre-workout serving. Also, you’ll notice that the Amazon description states “4 grams L-Citrulline” and “3.2 grams beta-alanine” per serving. Well, there are 2 grams of L-Citrulline and 1.6 grams of beta-alanine per serving (single scoop), so the description assumes two-scoop servings. Also, the first time I tried this, I got it in a one-time use sample packet, and of course it was a two-scoop serving in this one-time use pouch. It’s looking like the one-scoop serving size is just to make the product look cheaper. ON is usually the best at keeping prices low, but this one’s up there.

Caffeine: 200mg per serving (one scoop). This is about what you’d find in most caffeine pills. Generally, it takes more than 500mg per day to start causing problems, so a two scoop serving probably won’t bother most people. The bottle warns to start at one scoop just in case, which is a good idea.

Aftertaste: Capsicum (pepper extract) is an ingredient, so it leaves me with a burning sensation in my throat or mouth after (similar to hyper-fx, if you’ve ever tried that you probably already know what I mean).

Taste: Decent, it’s the best you can expect from a pre-workout. I like the raspberry lemonade.

The tingling sensation: It contains beta-alanine, so you will feel a tingling sensation shortly after taking it that may last a while (this is normal for beta-alanine, you’ll develop a tolerance for it over weeks). The original (not the micro) jack3d had beta-alanine so if you remember that effect, this product has the same effect.

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

So far I finished up two weeks of use and I’ve had my ups and downs on the product.
Please note that I do not drink coffee and I don’t use other stimulants.

First Day: 30 minutes before work out, one full serving. Taste was not that bad but has a spicy aftertaste. (Do not bit/chew the left over grit.) 15-30 minutes in I started to feel the tingle and alertness from the caffeine. A little jittery though. It seemed to give me addition energy during my work out and I was a lot less tired afterwards. Later on that night and it carried over to the morning, stomach pains followed by long stays in the bathroom. (almost called in sick)

Next 5 days: 30 minutes before work out, half a serving. No jitters, but I still felt alert and some energy. Slight stomach issues at night that reduced with use as the week continued. So it takes some time to adjust to the product and I’m sure any stimulant.

Second week: 30 minutes before work out, Full serving. No negative issues and I enjoyed the extra energy and stamina gained.

So far I will continue to use and purchase the product but in moderation.
