Serious Mass = Serious Gains, July 15, 2013
    By
Preston Vrinios (New Orleans, LA) –

This review is from: Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass, Chocolate, 12 Pound (Grocery)

Last month, I set a new goal of putting on 15 lbs of muscle in 8 weeks, taking me from 190 to 205. I won’t bore you with the lifting regimen, but I would like to illustrate my supplementing and dietary changes. (Btw, I went straight from training for endurance to training for size, and anyone who has ever done this knows exactly how jarring it can be to the system). Old diet =

    – Around 2,400 calories/day divided among 5 meals, ~180-190 grams protein, ~ 270 grams carbs, and ~ 66 grams fat

    – Two rounds of supplementary protein (included in above measures), one of which was a post-workout

    – 3 grams MRI NO2 Black (<– tried to post link but Amazon keeps killing/changing it for some reason), 2 BELDT: Force Thermogenic capsules 30 minutes before working out (to get me going and keep me lean), with 5 grams ON creatine and 5-10 grams of glutamine (depending on which body part was worked) post-workout, timed 30 minutes apart

The above allowed me to maintain stamina/endurance without compromising lean muscularity.

    NEW diet:

    – Between 3,200 and 4,000 calories/day (a 33-67% increase) divided among 6 meals, between 205 and 300 grams protein, 350 – 450 grams carbs, 105 – 122 grams fat (measures were ramped up as I went along to help with the adjustment)

    – Three rounds of supplementary protein (Serious Mass this time, included in above measures), one of which is post-workout

    – 5 grams NO2 Red (3.5 grams first thing in the morning, 1.5 grams midday), 3 BELDT capsules 30 minutes before working out (btw, this is above the recommeded dosage–I do it because I know I can handle it), with 10 grams ON creatine (5 in the morning and 5 post workout) and 10-15 grams glutamine post-workout, timed 30 minutes after 2nd dose of creatine.

Since beginning the new diet/supplementing regimen 4 weeks ago, I have gained 11 lbs of lean muscle. And I do mean lean. No gorilla gut or puffiness. I also now take fiber tablets in the morning to keep the insides clear, since a lot more is going in and you don’t want that stuff piling up. It’s also superfluous weight added to the scale, which can throw off your progress. I now have 4 weeks and 4 lbs left to go. Will check back in once I’m there.

    Great Product, October 9, 2009

ON’s Serious Mass is a great product, as long as you are aware what you are buying. To touch on a few things people mention in their reviews:

–YES…the scoops are large (standard serving of two scoops is 334 Grams). You’re drinking a protein shake not a coke, so deal with it. BSN’s True Mass requires 3 smaller scoops (145 grams), 18 servings a tub, at only 630 calories a serving, and $64.99 for some comparison to another leading weight gainer out there. The 2200 gainer that GNC sells used to come with the same size scoop…now requires 3 scoops totaling 485 grams, 1850 calories, 5 servings a tub at $46.99…so again, for what you’re getting and trying to accomplish, it’s a small price to pay.

–Mixing. You’re not making chocolate milk…again, this powder has some substance to it, as should be expected. If you don’t enjoy the headache of using a blender, split it into two servings. Depending on what you’re mixing it with that’s still at least 600 calories a serving, and you can fill the gap between meals with it. With only one scoop it also will mix perfectly in a shaker cup no clumping – as long as you pour the liquid first, then add the powder. As with most protein powders it will settle if you put the powder in first, and then clump when it gets wet as you pour the milk on it…and those clumps can be stubborn to break apart.

–Taste. Protein powders are flavored as a favor to the consumer. Hardcore guys could care less as they were sucking down eggs and whatever was needed long before someone decided to make blueberry flavored creatine or peanut butter chocolate flavored powder. The taste is fine for what it is – if you don’t like it, try a different product. Just know the better it tastes, a lot of times the worse it is. Everyone loves muscle milk for the taste…have you looked at the fat grams in there compared to some other protein shakes?

All in all this is great product. You’ve gotta consume 3,000 EXTRA calories to put on one pound of weight, keeping that in mind with the proper diet and working out you just bought between 7 – 9lbs depending on what you mix it with (maybe more)…and yes, if you do not workout and eat right you will still gain weight, just not the kind you want ; )

Serious Mass? Oh yeah!, January 5, 2011

This review is from: Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass, Chocolate, 12 Pound (Grocery)

Price: Initially seems high but think about what you’re getting for $40: like 20 solid meals (well not solid per-say). Yeah you could get a greater volume of chicken for the same price but think about it this way, have you ever run across chicken with creatine in it? Yeah. That would be weird.

Mixology: Haven’t tried this in a shaker bottle; I always go straight from the blender. The verdict? Smooth. We’re talking Sean Connery covered in baby oil smooth. Like a seal dipped in grease shooting down a water slide. No clumps in here. You find any clumps you can personally call me, any time of day, and day of the week, and work out your feelings. Maybe we can make up over a tall glass of chocolate weight gainer.

Taste: I see a lot of review on here getting down on the taste; it’s a weight gainer not a jelly donut!!!! It comes in chocolate, vanilla, probably strawberry…if you want something crazy like orange sherbet…shut up. You’re here to pack on Serious Mass®, not have a tasty snack. It’s not supposed to taste good. They do that so only tough badasses use it.

Gains? You Betcha! Go from scrawny weakling to scrawny weakling+5 pounds in a month’s time. Oh yea and you have to lift for it to work. Kinda sucks but uknow lol

Name: Serious Mass? Kind of false advertising if you ask me. The sun..that has serious mass. This is really only a few Kilograms so it seems like kind of an overstatement but like what do you expect typical Madison Avenue type scam job. I watch Mad Men. I know what goes on. Trust me.
