Organic Paleo Cultured Brown Butter Ghee, Grass Fed, Casein and Lactose Free (16 oz)

Organic Paleo Cultured Brown Butter Ghee, Grass Fed, Casein and Lactose Free (16 oz)

  • Certified Paleo Friendly
  • Made from Grass-Fed, Certified Organic Cultured Butter
  • Same process as ghee, but cooked longer for a deep, complex nutty flavor
  • No milk solids present. Suitable for lactose and casein intolerance.
  • Delicious nutty taste and texture

Our Paleo Brown Butter is produced from our own premium cultured ghee, but cooked longer in order to get a deeper, nuttier flavor. While traditional brown butter includes milk solids, we’ve chosen to exclude them in order to provide the same great flavor in a product suited for paleo and other lactose and casein restricted diets.

Our organic, cultured butter is sourced from grass-fed cows raised on small farms in the Northern California coastal region. It’s made in small batches by hand

This butter smells absolutely wonderful. Prefer it for cooking certain things to my current more-traditional brand of ghee I buy from the international grocery. In addition to cooking, I use ghee for cosmetic purposes (also used some yesterday to treat a burn). This wonderful smelling brown butter is great on meats (sometimes I drizzle a little over bacon when it’s done – great scent and flavor). I’m at half a jug now and am starting to ration since the few sellers on Amazon with good brown butter seem to be sold out. Supposedly it’s not terribly difficult to brown butter at home along the lines of the French beurre noisette (saw a few YouTube videos). You just have to make sure you don’t burn your batch because inhaling fumes or ingesting is unhealthy). I may give it a try if I run reallly low, though I don’t expect it’s the same – but it may be a interesting, worthwhile attempt anyway as a sauce for seafood or meat.

This review is from: Organic Paleo Cultured Brown Butter Ghee, Grass Fed, Casein and Lactose Free (16 oz) (Misc.)
The taste is good, but I’m not crazy about the texture…it’s grainy. I love that it’s organic and cultured, though. I’ve been using another brand and decided to try this one since it was less expensive. There’s nothing wrong with this product, but it’s just not as good as my preferred brand to me; that one is silky smooth, and it’s delicious! This one is fine for cooking, but I don’t care for it in my coffee as I do my usual.

*Out of respect for the product, which is still a good one, I do not name my preferred brand in my review. I’ll provide in comments, however, should anyone wish to know.*

Wish I could give this more stars….

I’ve now tried 3 different brands of ghee. This is my favorite. The smell is delicious and the taste is more rich and “buttery” than the other 2 ghee brands I’ve tried. Mostly, though, it’s the smell that I’m in love with.

Since I have only tried 2 types of clarified butters and now 3 brands of ghee, I’m just getting an idea of the differences in flavor and texture. One ghee that I tried was more liquid than this one (and was not lactose-free). Another brand was a lot more solid. Both of those were lighter in color and they didn’t have the nice nutty/buttery and caramel aroma that this one does. The taste test is the thing so I did use this in my coffee and I used a little on some scrambled eggs. I love the taste. It’s so mellow and rich as the same time. (If you make your own bulletproof coffees, I can tell you that this one tastes better than any other ghee or butter I have used!)

I had heard of “toasted” butter ghee but this one just says that it is cooked longer to get the color and flavor. However it is done, I prefer this to the blander ghees I’ve tried. I also love the fact that the label is informative (grass-fed, cultured, organic,m unsalted, etc.) With one brand, I had to write to the company to even find out if it was lactose- and casien-free (it wasn’t).

The price was a concern to me when I ordered this because I can get one of the other ghees for around $9 locally). The aroma and flavor make this preferable enough that I don’t mind paying more. I’m eating ketogenic meals and using good quality oils is a foundation of the diet that this brand ghee is going to be a staple for me. I just wish I could find it locally so that I could replenish my stash!
