    My weight lifting gloves were falling apart so I needed to buy some new ones. I was going to go with the same brand “Saranac,” but all Amazon had were women’s gloves and the one pair made for men didn’t look like the same style I had. I had a bad experience with Harbinger where the seam would did into my hand, so I didn’t want to get that brand, and then these GRIP POWER PADS caught my eye on the bottom where it lists what other customers bought.

    I’ve seen guys using these at the gym and I honestly thought that they were using mouse pads or something, but since I saw all the positive reviews for these pads, I decided to give them a try.

    Although it looks strange using them, the GRIP POWER PADS work really well.

    First, they provide a cushiony grip and cover your entire palm and fingers so no part is exposed. No more worrying about getting blisters and callouses on your hands.

    Second, your hands don’t sweat, which for me makes my grip feel stronger since I don’t have to keep readjusting it, and therefore my hands don’t get fatigued as fast. And since you don’t sweat, you don’t have to worry about the gloves staining your hands with dye. My old pair would always leave my hands with black marks even though they were well worn.

    Third, these cost about a third less as gloves. Now if they last as long as my old gloves did, which I think was about 4-5 years, than these pads are a win-win for me.

    I’ve been bench pressing for 13 years – multiple gyms – never needed/wanted gloves. However, my gym just bought brand new bars that have a ridiculously rough/sharp grip texture…I had to do something or deal with the 24 hours of sore palms I got from using the new bars.

    I searched for gloves and everyone complains that they make you sweat, they smell bad, they fall apart when washed etc. etc. Plus, I don’t particularly see myself wearing gloves and hate the idea of it.

    Then I saw these. A near flawless rating (rare full 5 stars) on Amazon and only $6.55? They seem too good to be true but they are NOT. They just plain work – easily, hassle free, no gloves. I keep these in my pockets at the gym and use when needed. I bought the soft ones, for no real reason other than soft sounds more comfortable than firm.

    You simply make a flat hand and place these little pads on them. Then grab the bar and grip. For my bars the pad is a little bigger than needed but it doesn’t matter – just squeeze it between your clenched fingers and don’t worry. They seem quite durable (no wear at all after 3 weeks) and after the first few days I was used to them. It’s a little awkward in the beginning but not a problem at all.

    They 100% prevent any slip or hand pain from gripping the bar. If by any chance I lost them or they actually fell apart in a few years, I would buy 2 more just in case. What a stupid simple idea that works perfectly! I can’t think of any way these could be improved upon.

    I have been using the grip power pads (firm grip and soft grip) instead of regular gloves (which were falling apart) for two months now for my weightlifting, which is primarily done with dumbbells and barbells. I also use them when I do pull-ups.

    Pros:
    Cheap – much cheaper than buying a new pair of gloves

    Great grip – due to the rubber and its texture, I have a much better grip with these than I did with my gloves.

    Great cushion – I have found the cushioning of the firm grip pads to be better and more comfortable than my gloves.

    Cover the entire hand – most weightlifting gloves are fingerless, these cover your entire hand (unless you have massive hands of course). Between this and their good cushioning, I have found these more comfortable than my gloves.

    Allow your hands to breath – I have never really found this to be an issue personally, but since you don’t have something covering your hands the whole time, it cuts down on the sweating

    Do not cause/perpetuate calluses – the locations where my old gloves creased when I gripped a bar caused calluses on my hands. In the time I have been using the grip pads, those calluses have pretty much disappeared.

    Much easier to clean – I don’t think I ever cleaned my old gloves. The power pads can easily be washed with soap and water if needed.

    They also make great bottle/jar openers 😉

    Cons:
    Smell – the pads smell distinctively rubbery. This smell transfers to my hands when I use them. It isn’t horrible, and it comes off in one or two washes of the hands so it is not something that keeps me from using them, but it would be great if they could get rid of the smell.

    Easier to lose – a benefit of gloves is that they tend to stay attached to your hand, making them hard to drop or leave behind accidentally. Again, not a big deal, but certainly a possibility.

    Very slightly less convenient than gloves – having padding attached to your hand is simply the most convenient and quickest way to achieve padding/protecting your hands while weightlifting. The power pads must be picked up, or taken out of pockets, and then positioned on the bar. Still not a big deal, but a factor to consider.

    Too grippy on occasion – I do not use these with my kettle bell workouts as you need the handle of the kettle bell to rotate in your hand. These grips provide too much grip allow that rotation.

    Unknowns:
    Durability – I have been using these pads for an hour an a half of lifting at least twice a week for two months now. So far, I have seen no evidence of wear. However, my old gloves lasted a few years, so these have a way to go to prove themselves for durability.

    My thoughts on the three different pads:

    Soft grip – these have the most cushion of the three and have great grip. I especially like these for bench press (or anything with 50+ lbs in each hand) and for exercises like renegade rows (when you do pushups on dumbbells). They are thick enough though that they may cause problems on larger bars or grips, and you exchange a little bit of control for that extra cushion. I use these for most of majority of my weightlifting. I think I would be fine if these were the only pad I had, but I do like having the firm grip pads as well.

    Firm grip – roughly half the thickness of the soft grip. These seem to me to have just a little more grip than the softgrip pads (not an advantage really, I just mention it for comparison). Not quite as comfortable for heavy weights, obviously, but give you better control. I use these for pull-ups and whenever I am working with lighter weights (40lbs or less), though your hands may have different preferences.

    Foam grip – the FAQ image says these may be for “more advanced lifters” so maybe that is why I don’t see a use for them. To me they seem like a pretty typical foam pad, not near as rubbery/spongy as the other two, not as durable, and not as flexible. I have not found an exercise for which these are better than the soft grip or firm grip. Right now they are serving as coasters on my desk.

    Final Verdict:
    For me, the pros have greatly outweighed the cons. My old gloves will sit in the corner (except when I use my kettle bell) and the power pads will continue to be abused 2 – 3 times a week. For the price of these pads, you can’t really go wrong. They are cheap enough you can even get a few sets and leave one in the car or something in case you forget to bring them to the gym.
