Relief – great for neuroma!, April 28, 2011

I have a neuroma which was causing me intermittent stabbing pain in my foot. The doctor recommended either superfeet green insoles or Spenco metatarsal supports. In my local store I only found superfeet so I bought those and odered the Spenco insoles on Amazon. I wore the superfeet for a few days but they were not very comfortable – extremely hard and made my heels hurt by the end of the day. When the Spenco insoles arrived I replaced the superfeet in my shoes with these gel insoles featuring metatarsal support, and my feet felt so good all day. The metatarsal support made a huge difference, and the insole overall is much more comfortable – with cushioning yet support.

Spenco ‘Total Support’ Gel, April 4, 2012

If you’re looking for an insert to add support to unsupportive shoes, this is not the product for you. The gel provides very nice cushioning and is very comfortable. However, it is very soft, so does not provide any additional support. The grey part that looks like rigid plastic in the photo is not actually rigid. It is also made of gel and is very soft, unlike the stiff molded plastic in the Spenco Polysorb Total Support and Superfeet inserts.

However, this product is perfect for use in an already stable and supportive shoe. I use them to replace the stock insoles in my Brooks Addiction, which is a very supportive motion control shoe. In this application, it is perfect. It improves the cushioning and comfort a lot and is an immense upgrade over the stock inserts. The shoe’s inherent stability prevents my feet from overpronating, so the insole doesn’t have to be very supportive.

If you want something more supportive, have a look at Spenco’s Polysorb Total Support or Superfeet. I use Superfeet in my tennis shoes and I just got the Polysorbs to try in my basketball shoes.

A very good product, but I deducted a star because it’s name suggests it’s a support insole, which I don’t think it is.
