Great Case but Not Perfect, August 8, 2012
    By

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I bought this UAG case to replace an aluminum bumper case that was getting badly scratched and dented from being dropped so many times by my young boy. I knew I needed a case that would better protect my phone and wouldn’t show as much drop damage. I looked at the typical Otterbox and Griffin cases but they made the phone just too big and bulky.

And then I found this case which looked like it would provide enough drop protection while keeping a relatively sleek profile to the phone. And it doesn’t hurt that it looks really cool too.

Let’s start with the positives. The case wasn’t too difficult to put on the phone and stays securely in place. I find the earphone and dock ports to be large enough for my use. The corners of the case are reinforced with a thicker silicone since that’s where it would take the most beating. The front has a raised edge so the screen is protected when you lay it flat. The back of the phone has four tiny raised feet on the corners so the hard plastic and shiny UAG logo don’t get scratched when its laid flat on that side. The covered buttons feel good and the opening for the silence switch is large and not too deep so its easy to access. The black plastic surrounding the camera opening prevents photos from being washed out when the flash is used. I find the silicone to be rubbery enough to protect it from drops without being too soft where it would collect lint. It slides in and out of my pants pockets easily. The case comes with a front screen protector but I already have Power Support Crystal screen protectors on the front and back and the only place I see some bubbling is near the camera hole. You don’t really need a back protector since its enclosed in the case. I just didn’t bother removing it before placing the phone in the new case.

However, like I said in my title, the case is not perfect. There are few issues that I feel are minor but I should mention. The power button is slightly raised which is good but volume buttons are not. The volume buttons are flush with the case which makes it hard to press without having to look at them. The top edge on the front of the phone bows outwards. Although the bottom front edge is flush, it is made only of silicone so it moves around easily. I guess it can’t be helped due to the design and type of case but I worry sometimes that it may snag on something and could potentially be the first place to break over time. Just holding the phone sideways, my thumbs will easily slide the silicone off the edge to the bottom of the phone close to the port.

One other thing to keep in mind when shopping for this case is that the official pictures on amazon and on the UAG website are not accurate on the color. I first purchased the cobalt color based on those pictures but the actual color is much lighter in person. I then purchased the moss color which I like much better but it is a medium grey color, not as dark as it looks in the official pics.

Overall, I like this case very much and hopefully won’t need to look for any new cases until I get a new phone when my 2 year contract runs out.

Love my new case!, March 22, 2012

I love my iPhone more than anything. Seeing other iPhones with cracked and spiderwebbed screens makes me cringe. So, I want to protect it the best way possible. I bought the OtterBox. It was so expensive, but I thought it would be worth it to protect my phone. However, the bulk of the OtterBox cannot be ignored. Trust me. I’ve been trying to ignore this monster of a case for months. Then I saw someone with the Urban Armor case. It was exactly what I’d been looking for. All the protection with none of the bulk. I feel safe leaving my life-line in it’s protection and am no longer embarrassed by the behemoth of an OtterBox that I was dragging around.
Sleek, extremely protective, and it looks really cool too. I cannot recommend this case enough!
