Excellent Book,
Anyone (bodybuilder or not) who is interested in how do build lean mass and lose fat should have this book in their library. I am so tired of negative “reviews” that state the book has “nothing new” or its information can be found for “free on the Internet”. Obviously the same can be said for almost any book– almost anything can be found on the Internet (even copyrighted material!). However, that requires finding the material, filtering out all of the conflicting information and judging whether to trust the source of the information found on the Internet. The whole point of buying a book, any book, is that the material is edited, presented in a clear, logical fashion, is supported by citations or research, and is written by an authority. This book gets 5 stars in all those respects!

Overpriced, little content,
I read all the favorable reviews and thought this book would provide some real insights. I was very disappointed. There are two problems with it:
1) it’s not really a book, it’s more of a pamphlet. I mean, come on, almost $30 for 160 odd pages of large font text and lots of open space? Also more than a few pages are devoted to the author’s discussion of his other book (available of course also on Amazon for another $24). Author appears to be more concerned with squeezing every penny he can get from his reader than he is with providing value-added content.
2) Agree also with some of the other reviews that there are few insights provided in this book that you can’t find easily, and for free, on YouTube and any number of other websites.
Book would be worth a mass market price of $2.99 or $4.99, that’s it.
Signed, a reader who feels ripped off.

Straightforward Review of BTS,
The author’s point seems to be that following the nutritional advice he gives without taking steroids is better than taking steroids while hardly paying attention to what you eat at all. My opinion on that is that he’s possibly right.
Basically, what I think the reader should take from this book is that you can use calories FOR you–you have to eat all 3 macronutrients anyway to build muscle, so you might as well make the most of them. He discusses nutrient timing and what Arnold Schwarzenegger calls “creating demand”. After you do a really hard workout, your muscles are in demand of protein, and they’re also in need of carbohydrates to replace the carb stores in the muscles (glycogen).
It makes sense that if you eat quality protein shortly after a hard workout, and also an adequate amount of carbohydrates, a great deal of these calories are going to go to muscle anabolism and recovery, and NOT SO MUCH TO BE STORED AS BODY FAT. He doesn’t advocate eating an excess of calories, though, as there are only so many your body can use for “productive” purposes.
Like any book, he makes a lot of points that I highly disagree with, but for me, ovrerall, this book was worth reading because of the helpful points he makes, and also because of the topics he discusses that further support and explain what modern experts and reliable/credible readings say about building muscle.
Lastly, I want to mention that specifically, what he says about insulin was very beneficial to me – it can be your best friend (assisting muscle-building) or your worst enemy (assisting the body’s natural tendency to want to store calories as fat).
I highly recommend reading this book and determining what parts of it might be helpful to you.
