Different than regular Silver, July 5, 2009

I’ve been taking Centrum Silver for the last 5 or 6 years. I thought when I purchased these (I bought the 100-count bottle) that they would probably be about the same as regular Centrum Silver with perhaps more Selenium for Prostate health.

Wow, was I wrong! While there are no new ingredients, Centrum has substantially increased the amounts of many of Silver’s components. I guess their reasoning is that since this product is targeted at men, and since average body weight for men will be higher than average body weight of men AND women, the dosage of each vitamin and mineral should be higher.

Here are some comparisons (the first number is the old formula):
    Vitamin A — 2500IU vs 3500IU
    Vitamin C — 90mcg vs 120mcg
    Vitamin D — 500mcg vs 600mcg
    Vitamin K — 30mcg vs 60mcg
    Vitamin B6 — 3mg vs 6mg
    Vitamin B12 — 25mcg vs 100mcg
    Zinc — 11mg vs 15mg
    Selenium — 55mcg vs 100mcg
    Manganese — 2.3mg vs 4mg
    Lycopene — 300mcg vs 600mcg
    Lutein — 250mcg vs 300mcg

There are other smaller increases, but the above are the big ones. Interestingly, there are a few reductions:
    Phosphorus — 110mg vs 20mg
    Folic Acid — 400mcg vs 300mcg
    Copper — 0.9mg vs 0.7mg

I suppose these are the components that women require in greater quantity than men.

The tablet itself is the same size horse-pill as before. But now it’s pink! Odd choice for men. I wonder what color the women’s pill is. Blue?

Whether the new or old formulas make a difference in overall health is hard to say. I use them as a kind of insurance against poor nutrition and because of the *possible* health benefit they *may* confer. Given that, I take on faith that this new formula is superior to the old.

Cannot believe I received expired product!

So I bought 1 bottle of Silver men and 1 bottle of silver women for my parents, 200 tablets each. I’ve read the review before purchase and I realized that there is 50% ppl saying that the product almost expired when they received it. The one I received expired already.

What’s worse? I could not find the expiration date because it was covered by a new label and I have to call pfizer to find out where they printed it. I can’t help but think that someone hide the exp date on purpose. I cannot believe Amazon does that! I am a very loyal costumer of Amazon and this is the first time it happened.

I called costumer service and they issue me refund and asked me to throw away the pills. They also said they will double check with the warehouse to make sure it doesnt happen again and they ask me to place another order. I am not sure if I want to do that anymore…

I will upload a picture showing the exp date covered by a label.

So good, even Men’s Health mag recommends it, June 8, 2013

QUICK SUMMARY: I decided to choose a few diet supplements and begin regularly taking them with my meals, hopefully to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. When doing research on what my options were, I decided to go with a multi-vitamin. Among multi-vitamins, Centrum Silver was notable for the accolades its received, and for being very affordable. Recommended!

BACKGROUND: I’ve never consistently taken diet supplements of any sort, yet I have enjoyed very good, overall health for years. As I’ve grown older, though, I thought it best to consider adding some diet supplements to help maintain my lifestyle. After researching multi-vitamins, both the pros and the cons, I’ve determined that there’s a greater probability that they will help my health than harm it. So, if I could find an affordable multi-vitamin that also has good efficacy, I was game. My research led me to Centrum Silver.

Why Centrum Silver for Men? Do a search for “Centrum Silver Research” and you’ll see recent articles that say that Centrum Silver was linked to an 8% reduction of cancer risk for men. That’s hardly a huge benefit — unless you are the one who didn’t get cancer because you were taking a multi-vitamin! Do another search for “best multi-vitamin for men” on the Men’s Health magazine website, and you’ll find that this young man’s magazine actually lists Centrum Silver (made for men 50+) as a top multi-vitamin choice. Overall, Centrum Silver for Men (gotta get that lycopene some way for your you-know-what) seems like a good choice.

Now, compare its cost with the premium multi-vitamins that are available, and you’ll have to decide whether you want to spend ten cents a day or a whole lot more than that (to get a bunch of vitamins and minerals that you should be getting anyway if you ate the way you know you’re supposed to eat).

For me, I’ll happily spend ten cents a day and hope for the best than spend 50 cents or more a day for a different multi-vitamin (and still l’ll just be hoping for the best).
